THURSDAY REHEARSALS
Choir rehearsal evenings are very
informal and enjoyable. Our start time is 7.30 pm but most people begin
arriving by 7.10 pm so that they can indulge in a little social chat
before the serious stuff starts.
The ‘business’ is conducted in a
‘u’ formation facing David, our M.D. He usually begins with some warm-up
exercises, so that we can crank up our vocal chords, before getting on
to the particular repertoire that we are working on at the time. As
with most choirs each section has the opportunity to learn their ‘bit’
before we attempt to put it together and see what we’ve got. Some of
the pieces we do are more challenging than others but it is always great
to be learning new music and expanding our repertoire.
A highlight of the evening is
8.30 pm – tea break and talk time. This is another chance to mingle
with choir members outside of your own particular voice group. This
lasts for about 15 minutes and is followed by notices before we get back
to singing.
However hard we have had to work
the whole evening is always sprinkled with light-hearted banter and
jokes – usually from the male members, I would add. This makes for a
most pleasant and relaxed rehearsal and I’m sure all choir members look
forward to Thursday evenings.
