COLlN SIMMONS ~ CHAIRMAN

Colin was born in Bedworth and now lives in Nuneaton. He took up singing at 17 and studied under the late Phyllis Marlow. He was with Guildhall Amateur Operatic Society in Coventry for 10 years before being invited to join the Nuneaton Pantomime and Revue Society to play the part of Jud Fry in Oklahoma. He stayed with them for 6 years taking leading roles in all their productions.

He sang with Fillongley Singers for 5 years and joined Bedworth Choral Society in 1998. He became Chairman in 2000 and has increased membership three fold since then and has also organised many concerts with them.

He has produced three Civic Command Performances at the Civic Hall in aid of various Mayor’s charities.

He organised the Voices for Hospices concerts in October 2000, 2003 and 2005 at the Civic Hall raising in excess of £10,000 for the Hospice.

He has sung at the Picnic Proms concert at the Hospice in 2004, 2005  and 2006.

In July 2005 he organised and produced the first ever local Young Voices for Hospices involving over 300 children from the local area, raising £2450 for the Hospice.

He has just agreed to do another one here in the Civic Hall on Friday 4th April 2008 .

Watch the press for further details nearer the date, Why not come along and support local young talent as well as the Hospice. The last show was fabulous.

Why does he do it - because he thinks it is important for local people to be given the opportunity to perform in the local theatre raising money for important local causes.

DAVID BRAY ~ MUSICAL DIRECTOR

David Bray has played the trumpet with many of the UK's leading orchestras. He has performed as a soloist at venues such as the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London and Kings College Chapel Cambridge. He has conducted a wide range of choirs, bands and orchestras at the Albert Hall London, Symphony Hall Birmingham and the Royal Festival London. He recently conducted the Fiorosa Chamber Choir at St John Smith's Square in London to great critical acclaim.
He has taken three different choirs to the final rounds of the televised choir of the year competition and won prizes conducting choirs at Montreux, Riva del Garda and in the National Festival of Music for Youth. An adjudicator described a choir that he conducted as 'extremely fine in every way'. David is a school's inspector, formerly County Music adviser for Northamptonshire and on Saturdays can often be found refereeing football matches for his local under nines team. He regards this is a more stressful experience than performing music in front of a critical audience.
David joined us in October and his first concerts with us were in December 2007.

James Morris BMus (Hons) Dip ABRSM ~ ACCOMPANIST

James studied music at the University of Huddersfield, specialising in piano performance. He has achieved his Diploma from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music in piano performance.

James has vast experience as an accompanist and pianist. He has worked for the Nuneaton Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, and is regularly an accompanist for Associated Board music examinations and the Nuneaton Festival of Arts. He has worked as Musical Director for the Spa Theatre Company.

James plays flute and piccolo with the Bedworth Symphony Orchestra, and also plays all sizes of recorder with the Nuneaton branch of the Society of Recorder Players, for which he is currently Musical Director.
